Congratulations to Citlali Avila Sanchez ’25 for being named a national award winner by the National Center for Women & Information Technology! She is one of just 40 recipients selected from over 3,700 high school applicants nationwide. Citlali is also one of only four South Carolina students to receive the Brady-Wolfe Scholarship, which honors students creating meaningful change through tech-focused projects.

We also want to recognize our Porter-Gaud math teams for earning top honors at the SCISA Math Meet last week! Teams from all three divisions placed in the top three of their respective competitions, and several students also had strong individual results in the high school competition: William B. ’25 (third place) and Lucia S. ’26 (ninth place). Appeal Process for Honors and AP Courses
Students who did not meet all of a department’s criteria and were not initially recommended for an Honors or AP course have the option to go through a formal appeal process to pursue enrollment. A successful appeal is one in which the student provides additional information that was not previously available or demonstrates significant improvement in one or more of the required criteria. Students appealing a recommendation should:

  • Complete the appeals form provided by the department chair, advisor, or subject area teacher. Appeals forms will be available on April 7.
  • Submit the form by April 10 (late submissions will not be considered).
  • Demonstrate meaningful academic improvement or provide new information that strengthens their case for enrollment.

Once a student has submitted the request, the following steps will be taken:

  • The appeal will be reviewed by the department members, including the Department Chair.
  • Students may be asked to include additional information, such as a writing sample, or take a placement exam.
  • Students will be notified by the Department Chair of the decision via official notes in Blackbaud.
  • Final decisions could be made anytime up to the end of the school year if the department wishes to review final grades and the final exam.
