PARENTS
KEY ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS
Welcome back, Cyclones! We hope you had a restful and joyful winter break filled with special moments and time to recharge. As always, we are excited to see our students’ bright smiles back on campus, ready for the learning, growth, and opportunities that lie ahead. The second half of the school year is always an inspiring time as we watch our students continue to thrive academically, socially, and personally. We look forward to partnering with you to make this a wonderful and successful season for every member of our Porter-Gaud community.
Fourth-Grade Flooding Project
Our fourth-grade students recently completed an interdisciplinary project focused on flood mitigation. Through their ELA and science classes, students explored the causes and impact of flooding in Charleston, designed informational graphics, and developed innovative models and solutions to address flood-related challenges. As a culminating experience, we welcomed local experts to campus to hear student presentations, provide feedback, and engage in thoughtful discussions. This authentic learning opportunity allowed students to showcase their work, ask questions, and gain valuable insight from professionals working to solve these pressing issues in our community.
Chapel
You are invited to attend Chapel this Friday, February 21.
Save the Date: Meeting for Rising Fifth-Grade Families
If you are a current fourth grade parent or caregiver, please mark your calendars for Thursday, March 6 at 8:15 a.m. for your first official Middle School event! We will discuss curriculum, student schedules, and extra-curricular offerings, and also provide an overview of our Advisory and Life 101 programming. You will meet members of our Middle School administrative team and have the opportunity to ask questions. We hope you can join us!
Parenting Tip: Show Your Child That Your Love Is Unconditional
As a parent, guiding and correcting your child is essential to their growth. But finding the balance between tough love and unconditional support is key.
When holding your child accountable, avoid blaming, criticizing, or using harsh words that can damage their self-esteem and create resentment. Tough love means setting clear expectations and following through with consequences, but it should always be paired with encouragement and empathy. Let your child know you believe they can do better—and that your love is constant, even when you have to be firm.
